Setup for gel electrophoresis. Gel electrophoresis is the use of a gel as a molecular sieve to separate macromolecules such as nucleic acids or proteins on the basis of size or electrical charge. It seperates macromolecules on the basis of their rate of movement through a gel in an electic field.
