You know what,
We ought to try in life.
But very often in my life had i mentioned, "Tried too hard. I'd just tried too hard, that's why i'm not getting what i wanted ..."
And i just went rambling about how hard it was and how stupid i was, to have "tried too hard". Yeah, i'm sure many of us had been through desperate situations where nothing we did worked out well, or there was nothing we can do to better the situation.
We tried all ways and means!
But only today had i learnt that all along, it wasn't because i had "tried too hard" to get something that wasn't even meant for me in the first place.
Okay, perhaps it is true indeed, that what i was pursuing wasn't at all meant for me by God's will; what i had wanted might be a snake which appeared to me as a good and nice skipping rope or something. In this case, that's ignorance, which would be forgiven by the abundant grace of God if you would just go ask for it. Easy. It might also be rebellion which you'd deceived yourself into committing; that what you wanted is good for yourself, at least you would be loving it at the point of receiving it.
But putting that aside, if you have been trying and trying so hard all these while, and there is nothing that you are getting out of it, then i tell you,
It's not because you tried too hard, it's because you have not been doing it the right way!
How did you not do it in the right way then, if you had tried all ways and means?
Well, the flesh can't kill the flesh, neither can it save itself.
To be working with all the solutions that your human brain had thought out of is like trying to pluck out all the weeds that is growing in a 500 hectures grassland with your bare hands!
But if you rely, not on your own strength, but on Someone who has more power than you, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, then, you are beginning on the right track. In fact, if you decide to solely rely on your own strength, you are selfish and self-centred in God's eyes.
It's only me and myself and me and myself and me and myself and ...
Well, sometimes we know God is there, but we just choose to work things out on ourselves first, before choosing the alternative. It is like a child who has just learnt something new. Let's take a drawing session for an example. He wants to do things his own way first - refusing to let anyone help him, breaking the crayons, squeezing out the whole tube of paint, dirtying his hands, colouring the drawing paper with a confusing mess of paints and crayon marks and so on. Then, after a while, when he looked at the mess that he had made on the paper in front of him, on the floor around him, and worse still, on himself, he finally gave up.
This is our nature since young! But still, like the parent, God will be hanging around, witnessing the mistakes that we have made, and the mess we have got ourselves and whatever that are around us into.
Then, it is only when we give up trying and choose to surrender ourselves to God, go to him and ask for forgiveness, ask him for his help and guidance, strength and courage, that we can go back on the right track with God. And that is when God can truly work with us.
To have peace with the world, we must first have peace with our society.
To have peace with our society, we must first have peace with our work or surrounding.
To have peace with our work surrounding, we must first have peace with family.
To have peace with our family, we must first have peace with ourselves.
To have peace with ourselves, we must first have peace with God.
The bible says in Matthew 6:33,
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
