What I think that is the best thing in life, is to do what you enjoy the most.
If you love to paint you should be a painter, instead of a banker just because a banker is what the world says to be a more stable job.
If you love to sing, then be a singer. Go for lessons and pursue your dream with all your heart. Look out for every opportunity.
If you love to run, then train to be your best. Don't let other things that the world say you should do instead rob you of your training time, or rather, the time to enjoy doing what you love to do.
But what if one day you realise that you can't do what you want to do? Instead you are restricted to what you do not love to do at all. Something which seems to bind you away. It feels like your hands and feet are bounded, and you are being left in a dark room.
Then there is silence. Then there's a struggle. A frustration. An anger ...
Followed by despair and giving up. Then you are tired. You are perspiring all over. You feel sick; neusea. Then you sob and sob.
Time became an irrelevant. You are working for nothing. You aren't doing what you are supposed to do, what you are made to do, what you are meant to do. You don't even know or understand what you are doing. Not at all.
Everyday you go through the same old thing that bores you. Nothing interests you at all. You are even sick and tired of yourself. Of life and its everything, though it's only a part of it that you do not enjoy. It sucks your energy our of you. It just drains you.
Not being able to enjoy what you do is probably the worst thing that can ever happen to you.
But God told me there's a difference. There is a difference between doing what you enjoy and enjoying what you are doing, which can be what you like and what you do NOT like.
Most of us do not have the privilege of doing what we love, what we truly enjoy. Most of us are forced by the society or our circumstances to do what that's appropriate. So, we conform to what the world tells us to do instead of what we want to do for ourselves. Thus, many people throw away their childhood dreams and visions for their future. Or they can even be afraid to think about it, because it is going to fill them with so much grief and regret.
So let's talk about the second catagory which most of us falls into - People who are doing what that may not be what they really have a strong passion in. Sometimes, or most of the time, we may like certain areas of the job we are doing and hate the other parts of it. For sure there would be some things that we like and do not like at our workplace. Perhaps the job is good but the people we need to face everyday are just not those who we think we would like to work with.
So then we need to tell ourselves that we need to enjoy ourselves no matter what. We may not be doing what we like to do, but we should not let what we do and our surrounding determine our feelings. We can be happy even when our circumstances or the situation we are stucked in are not at all what we want or expected.
The joy of the Lord is my strength. Actually other than holidays and days that you do not have to work, most days are a torture to go through. That's why God promised us His Grace. If we can get by with everyday just so happily, then we wouldn't be needing any grace isn't it? But God knows that life is tough, that's why He provides us with grace, which is sufficient for each day. Each day we receive new grace from the Lord. Each day He blesses us with fresh grace the moment we open our eyes to greet the new day.
There are not many happy things that occur each day anyway. Look at the news and you know that everyday some thing bad happened to someone somewhere somehow. But true happiness is being able to be stable and joyful in the Lord when the circumstances are telling you not to.
During happy occasions and when good things happen, of course you will be happy. It is the natural thing. But when things are just a mess and the situation isn't looking good, and you maintain that joy in you, then you have chosen to be blessed doubly!
You say, "Nothing in this world is able to steal my joy and my strength. Nothing in this world can make me bow down! For I am a conqueror in Christ Jesus my Lord. He is my strength and He is my joy."
More than often we look at our problems more than looking at God for help. Then the more we focus on our problems, the smaller we become and the bigger the problems seem to get. Note that I used the word "seems", which means that the size of the problem did not increase at all, but we think that it did.
And the amount of fear in us too gets bigger and bigger. And if we do not take a look at ourselves, we may end up being engulfed by that self imagined and self fed fear.
How does fear grows? Fear grows when you feed it. When you entertain it, fear just grows. How you do feed it then? You feed it with your thoughts. Every thought that you think about will affect your state of mind. Most people think that it is their state of mind that's affecting their thinking, but no! It is their thoughts that are affecting their state of mind.
You think of feaful thoughts, which makes yourself more afraid of your situations. Then you become more anxious, nervous and worrying.
So you really need put all your thoughts into captivity. You need to learn to surrender your thoughts to the Lord. Ask Him to put good thoughts in your mind. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you His ways.
It is easy to enjoy life by doing what we love to do, but i think what is more applicable for most of us is learning to enjoy life while doing what we do not like doing. The ability to enjoy life while your circumstance is not at all enjoying is an art to learn and master. Staying happy is a choice and the choice is usually difficult to make because it is like going against yourselves. It is an unnatural for the flesh to smile when "sad hormones" are flushed into your blood stream. I'm not saying that it is not okay to be sad once in a while. But it is important to know that everyone of us has to power to be happy, instead of be subjected to hormones of our body. Moreover it is easy to be sad in this world we live in, don't you think so?
We should be empowered by our thinking instead of being be weaken by it. There are so much more to living than what we think there is.
